There is just one week left to complete the Tairāwhiti Wellbeing Survey (TWS) and ensure your voice is captured within this regional data. More than 800 people have already done the survey, with solid participation right across rohe from Motu to Muriwai to Wharekahika.

The survey is a condensed version of the Government’s NZ General Social Survey, with an additional module specific to Tairāwhiti. It was designed to help build comprehensive data about how we’re doing as a region and to better understand the needs of our people.

The TWS asks respondents a range of questions about their health and wellbeing of their whānau. It asks you to rate how satisfied you are with your job, if you think your household earns enough money to live week to week, and what you think about your local environment.

Many interesting insights have already come through from the survey, including:

  • most respondents feel the future environment will be worse in 5-years’ time
  • most respondents don’t believe housing will be more affordable
  • 65 percent know who mana whenua are where their house is
  • 65 percent believe people will be more familiar with tikanga, matauranga and te reo in the future.

Since its launch on October 12, the survey website has attracted more than 1800 visits, with a number of responses still partially completed.

Erina Hurihanganui, the Trust’s General Manager Wellbeing and Impact, encourages those with partially completed responses to finalise it before 12 December.

“Likewise, if you’re yet to do the survey, please visit the website to learn more about it and have your say. And thank you to everyone who has already taken the time to have their say."

The data will be combined to provide wellbeing insights about Tairāwhiti which will be shared publicly.

The Tairāwhiti Wellbeing Survey is a longitudinal project, with the intent to roll it out annually. Over time, we will be able to see trends and if our regional wellbeing is improving.

The survey closes on 12 December – to find out more and complete it, visit the website.
