The Nest Collective distributes pēpi packs to families-in-need around New Zealand, full of essential items to support them with the first 1,000 days of their baby’s life.
Trust Tairāwhiti recently supported The Nest Collective’s Gisborne branch with $15k towards the essential items included in these packs, helping ease the pressure for whānau in need.
Each pack contains more than 150 new, preloved, handcrafted and recycled items, including clothing, bedding, toys, books and safety items.
Social workers, kaiāwhina, midwives and nurses from more than 40 organisations identify whānau that would benefit from receiving a pack and refer them to The Nest Collective.
Last year, the Gisborne branch distributed more than 160 packs across the region. At least 90 per cent went to Māori and Pacific whānau, supporting communities most affected by material hardship. Around 55 per cent were provided to solo parents and 12 per cent to parents aged 25 and under.
With demand for pēpi packs increasing every year, ongoing support from grants and community donations is critical to continuing to reach whānau who need it most.
“The generosity of our community is at the heart of what we do. Support like this grant, alongside donations of clothing, books and other essentials, helps us make sure pēpi and their whānau have the best possible start.
“Together, we can ease the pressure on families during such an important time,” says The Nest Collective Chief Executive, Natalia Karacaoglu.
