Grants for home heating and insulation are available for eligible homeowners in the Tairāwhiti region.
Warmer Kiwi Homes is a Government programme offering grants that cover up to 80 percent of insulation and heater costs for eligible low-income homeowners. The remaining 20 percent of insulation costs are covered by Trust Tairāwhiti.

The Warmer Kiwi Homes programme has passed more than 100,000 installations of insulation and efficient heaters around Aotearoa. An independent evaluation of the programme showed that households that participated in the study reported an overwhelming increase in comfort and satisfaction with their home and reduced their electricity use by 16 per cent over winter. The programme made a difference to the wellbeing of people, with reduced risk of respiratory illness and fewer doctor’s visits and hospitalisations.
